Ash White - Persistence + Obfuscation

It’s funny to see the subtle things that Koreans do to protest the outcome of the women’s figure skating competition.  Yeah, we kinda do hold grudges (ask Apolo Ohno).
Case in point: during yesterday’s telecast of the Figure Skating Gala Exhibition, when panning into the shot of all of the skaters on the ice, SBS (a Korean TV network) conveniently places credits over the face of Adelina Sotnikova.  What’s even funnier is that the names on the credits belong to the guy in editing and the crew that shot the footage.
Brilliant.

Loving this!

Everyone says that Chandler is the best representation of Tumblr… I’m sorry, but aren’t we forgetting someone?

La concentrazione credo sia altissima.

Ora faccio un sondaggio: reblogga se sei un programmatore o cose simili.

"Cose simili" non ti sembra un tantinello vago? :)

Io sono un programmatore e cose simili :)

Ciao a tutti, sono similprogrammatrice.

I’d very much like to punch a feminist.

It’d bring me great joy.

What is love?

Apparently only for white people.

Dude, you do realize this ad is Italian right? Those people are Italian, because it’s an Italian ad. Italian people are typically white. This ad is suppose to be about acceptance in THEIR country, why would they have models that don’t look like they’re from their country?

I’m gettin’ real tired of tumblr’s attitude. I’m probably going to get a lot of hate for this, but here we go.

Not everywhere is as mixed as North America. You go to places like Japan and it would be really weird to see a white person in their ad, it’s no different for places like Italy and Germany where people are mostly white. In North American we seem to have a decently even mix in a lot of areas so it’s a little off-putting when there’s only a certain race -generally all white people- depicted, where it’s completely normal and would appear really strange otherwise for other countries. Like you wouldn’t go to China and demand they show white people in their ads there, so why would you do the same for a country that has very few PoC compared to it’s population?

As the person above me said, why would they have models that don’t look like they’re from their country in their ads?

Seriously, I am Italian, and FUCK YOU. Our country has huge problems with homophobia, there isn’t even one single law to protect homosexuals. Most European countries have legalized marriage and adoption (or at least talked about it), but not Italy. The Catholic community does everything they can to block the law against homophobia. Last month, a 14 years-old killed himself because he was gay. You have no idea how much that kind of thing matters in Italy, all you can fucking do is whine about Tumblr about the fact that they are all white. Yes, in Italy the majority of the population is indeed white. Not the rest of the world is like fucking North America. So before you come whining about it on Tumblr, get your facts right.

I love it when reality slaps the fuck out of Tumblr.

So you know, just this month a Italian MP donned blackface in the Parliament, and previously the same, rather large party’s MPs have thrown bananas at, and made monkey calls at the on black MP in the Italian parliament.

There’s laws against citizenship of people “not of Italian background”, the police regularly stop Baloteli arguably the most famous black Italian because he looks “suspicious” and there’s actual, self-identified fascists in political offices across the country.

Do tell me again how Italy is “white” and it’s more urgent to fight homophobia than racism.

I guess LGBT people of coor don’t exist in Italy.

Look italy is so racist and homophobic that putting a poc in those images would actually get the situation WORSE because the common person would just think AH SO THE IMMIGRANTS THAT ARE STEALING OUR JOBS ARE ALSO FAGS???

I already explained how this is a huge issue and we need to take baby steps.
If you don’t know the facts and what’s going on in the country you’re talking about, please refrain from throwing more and more shit on us even when we try to do something nice like those posters. We are trying to do our best, but the majority of the people here are still very close-minded and I was actually shocked when TIM had an ad featuring an asian girl because it was that forward for us.
Not everywhere is the USA, the TIMING is different depending on the people, the history they had and the politics/government that is at work in said country.

Thank you.

I already wrote about this (as in, whiteness, racism and homosexuality in Italy) here, here and here. If you (impersonal/generic) want to form your own opinion on someone else’s situation, I think you have all the tools to be informed. Most of our asks are open too, it takes 5 seconds to write down a question instead of spreading uniformed stereotypes over and over again.
As I already said way too many times, using the term “white” to address Italians is ridiculous. As is any kind of generalization. There are members of the Parliament who wear blackface and who are, openly or not, fascists. There are “”“white”“” citizens who jump into the sea and give away their food, their own children’s toys and dresses to help the immigrants in Lampedusa. There’s good and bad, as in every other country, it’s only a matter of acknowledging both.
